God gave one more little soul to the company of St. Little Flower to shower roses of blessings on earth on 9th March, 2012, by our beloved Bro. Joby Ottaplackal. He was the passion flower of our congregation by taking up all the sufferings with a smile. The jovial and loving nature of Bro. Joby attracted many and gained many friends for him. He was born on 2nd March. 1985 at Josegiri near Rajakkad. He was the elder son of Johny and Lissy of Ottaplackal family of Rajakkad parish of the diocese of Idukki. After completing his schooling at Josegiri and NR City, Joby decided to join the Little Flower Congregation. With an ardent desire to be a missionary he joined the Little Flower Congregation on 15 June,2000. After spending one month in the Mission House at Valliappanpady, Aluva, he joined the Little Flower Minor Seminary at Malout, Punjab on 11th July, 2000. After the completion of Minor Seminary and Plus Two studie at Malout, he entere the novitiate at Mookkannur on 16th May, 2003. After completing the canonical novitiate under Rev. Fr. Jose Ezhanikkatt CST, he made his First Profession on 17th May, 2004 before Rev. Fr. John Mundackal CST, the Provincial Superior of Khrist Jyoti Province. After the first profession he was sent for the Philosophical studies at our Little Flower Seminary, Aluva. During his studies at Aluva he proved himself to be good artist, key boardist, and good sports man. After the Philosophical course, considering his interest in the technical field, the superiors sent him for higher studies in D.T.P and Computer application. After completing the specialization from Chavara Computer Academy, Koonammavu he was sent to the Mission for the regency. He did his regency at Little Flower Ashram, Muktsar, Punjab. He proved to be good technician and a good organizer during his service at Xavier Printing Press at Muktsar. After the regency he submitted himself fully to the Lord for the service of God and humanity through his Perpetual Profession on 13th May, 2009. He started his Theological studies at Dharmaram Bangalore in June 2009. But, the Divine will for him was something else. Being diagnosed with a cancerous growth on his thighs, he stopped his theological studies for his treatment on 28th November, 2009. After the two years of treatment at Amala Medical College, Thrissur and RCC, Trivandrum he continued his theological studies from June 2011, at St. Joseph's Pontifical Seminary, Mangalapuzha, Aluva. Even though, the wound in his leg was not fully cured he readily accepted to stay on the third floor with his batch mates. He used to go for the checkup in every month. In the first week of December, 2011 he had severe chest pain and was again diagnosed with cancer affected in his lungs. So he was brought back to Mudickal for the further treatments. According to the direction of the doctors he was admitted in the Carmel Hospital for the further treatment and palliative care. He was always happy and was particular in entertaining everyone. His vast friend circle is a proof for that. According to his desire the marriage of his only brother Noby was conducted in February 2012 and he was taken for this marriage in the ambulance. It was the last moment he visited his home. He was preparing actually for the death. The poem he wrote before his death was directly proving that. He received the sacrament of anointing of the sick and prepared himself for his eternal journey. In the first week of March he was undergoing so much of pain and by lying on the lap of his own father he left for his eternal reward at 8. 20 pm on 9th March, 2012. Before and after his death Rt. Rev. Dr. Thomas Thuruthimattam CST came and prayed for him. The body was taken to the Little Flower Seminary, Aluva by 10 pm on 9th March. After the office sung by Rev. Fr. Augustine Tharappath CST, the Vicar General the body was brought to Khristhu Jyothy Mission Bhavan, Mudickal where Rev. Abraham Kunnakkatt CST, the Superior and other fathers prayed the office. On 10th, early in the morning by 5.30 am the body was shifted to the Carmel Hospital mortuary and was kept there for one day. On Sunday, 11th March 2012, by 5 am the body was carried to Mangalapuzha where the first part of the funeral was conducted with concelebrated Liturgy. Rt. Rev. Dr. Jose Porunnedam, the Bishop of Manathawady was the main celebrant. All the priests both from Mangalapuzha and Carmelgiri and some of our fathers concelebrated. After an office for the dead in Latin Rite officiated by Rev. Dr. Jacob Prasad, the president of the Pontifical Institute , the body was taken to Little Flower Seminary. Rt. Rev. Dr. Bosco Puthur, the Curia Bishop paid homage to Bro. Joby and prayed an office for the dead His Beatitude George Cardinal Allenchery, the Major Arch Bishop, officiated the second part of the funeral. The third part of the funeral was begun with a concelebrated Holy Eucharist by Very Rev. Fr. Mathew Kumpuckal CST, the superior General as the main celebrant. Man}' fathers from CST, Mangalapuzha and outside concelebrated in the Liturgy. The final Rites were celebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Thomas Anjilivelil CST, the Provincial Superior of Khrist Jyoti Province. His mortal remains are buried in the cemetery chapel of Little Flower Seminary, Aluva. All those who came in contact with Bro. Joby saw a good friend and a loving person in him. His attitude to suffering is really a model for all of us. M AY THE LORD GRANT HIM ETERNAL REST Fr. John Kapiarumalayil CST Provincial Superior NB: It is to be read in all our Ashrams at the eve of the Death Anniversary "I HAVE FOJUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED THE RACE, AND I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH".
